How to Stay Healthy While Working From Home

It’s no secret that 2020 turned the world upside down, and because of that, you may not have prioritized your health the way you should have. Now that 2021 has arrived, you may find yourself still working at home, but ready to kickstart the new year by building a new health-conscious routine. Unfortunately, working from home has created a lot of obstacles for people regarding health. Perhaps you worked in an office with a free gym that you could visit every day, or desks that raised so that you could spend part of your day standing. Whatever the case may be, working from home doesn’t always provide the same options, so in today’s post, we will provide you with a few ways you can stay healthy while working from home.

Ready to level up your health? At Foodology, we can help! Our healthy eating guide is designed to help you create a better relationship with food and learn more about what you’re putting into your body, as opposed to fad diets that simply restrict what you can and can’t eat. Stock Up on Healthy Snacks

When you’re spending all day working from home, it’s easy to walk into the kitchen and grab whatever you have on hand, which may be anything from fruit to sweets and chips. If you are a serial snacker who just can’t keep from munching throughout the day, the best way to stay healthy is to make sure your kitchen is stocked with healthy snacks. Instead of chips and pretzels, consider buying fruits and crunchy vegetables. If you just can’t get the idea of chips out of your head, consider eating dehydrated fruits or veggies to get that similar texture. You can even look up recipes for easy healthy snacks so that you feel like you’re putting something together while also mixing different flavors to create something new.

Meal Plan

Another obstacle that may stand in your way while working from home is getting the healthy meals that your body needs. At the end of a long day, you may find yourself just wanting to sit on the couch and not worry about making dinner. Perhaps you forgot to pick up groceries and you don’t have anything in the house, and the last thing you want to do is put on real pants before you go to the store. To help combat the mealtime woes, consider meal planning at the beginning of every week. You can create a list of what meals you would like to have, come up with a grocery list, and do all your shopping so that you have everything you need. If you’ve found that you’re just too tired to cook at the end of the day, consider doing all of your cooking on the weekends when you have more time so that all you have to do during the week is heat up your healthy meal and enjoy.

Exercise

As most people know, exercise is a key component of staying healthy, but with COVID restrictions and working from home where you don’t have easy access to a gym, exercising just got a little more difficult. Not everyone has at-home gym equipment, so instead of forgoing exercise entirely, it’s time to get creative.

Online Videos

If you were someone who loved attending your weekly yoga or Zumba class, consider taking a class at home! Many gyms are now offering virtual classes, and if you’re not a member, you can always find a variety of great at-home workout videos online.

Stationary Bike

Biking is a great way to get outside and get some exercise — no gym required! However, now that winter is here, going outside to bike isn’t always at the top of your list. Instead of packing away your bike, consider investing in a stationary bike so you can keep exercising during the winter. Another option is to buy a bike stand that helps turn your normal bike into a stationary bike that you can use right in your living room!

Get Up and Walk

One of the easiest ways to get your exercise is to walk. Most people are under the impression that running is the only way to get exercise outdoors, but you can experience just as many benefits simply by walking! Consider using your lunch break to take a walk while listening to your favorite audiobook or podcast, or even invite a friend to walk with you!

At Foodology, we’re dedicated to helping people across the country improve their health, both by eating right and exercising. We are firm believers that walking is the perfect exercise for anyone, regardless of age or weight, so if you’re looking to get healthier this year, why not try walking?
